Lift Truck Parts in More Detail
There are numerous parts which make up a forklift. The lift truck's main components include the truck frame, the engine components, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. Furthermore, a lift truck consists of different types of attachments. All the components which make up a lift truck are all important since they work together to make the machine's operation possible. The following paragraphs describe in detail a few of the forklift components.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits on top of the cab area and protects the machinery operator whilst she or he is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck will hurt the driver or damage the controls inside the cab. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on various units.
The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical lift truck part made of interlocking rails. The mast enables the forks to move upwards and down whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails could either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast may be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the component that the forks and different other types of attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. To enable the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage can have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - When the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal which prevents a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - There are numerous kinds of attachments which could be fixed directly to the forklifts carriage. Forks are the most common type of attachment. Additionally, there are L-shaped members, rollers, rotators, roll clamps, pole handlers and so forth. These different types of attachments are helpful for transporting different types of loads.
