Different Types of Aerial Lift

Aerial lifts are a specialized kind of heavy machinery that enables workers to be lifted into the air. These machinery can be used to perform maintenance and repairs in areas that are high up in the air like on roofs, near street-light fixtures and power lines. Similar to most tools, there are various models of aerial lifts that could be used to complete various tasks. For the utmost safety, each type of different kind of machine requires right training and specific certification prior to operation.

Scissor Lifts

Genie lifts are another name for scissor lifts. These equipment are the most basic type of aerial lift available. These lifts are made of a platform which is raised up utilizing pneumatic power and are mainly used for indoor applications. Normally, scissor lifts are the safest type of lift models. When totally compressed, these scissor lifts are capable of being driven like large carts. Usually, when the platform is extended, they could not be driven for safety reasons. Before anybody can use these devices, workers have to be certified as operators.

Boom Lifts

The boom lift is a a lot more complicated type of aerial lift machinery compared to a scissor lift. The boom lift usually has a much wider base in order to keep the lift anchored. It uses a jointed arm which has a bucket on the end of it. There is a control box located in the bucket that enables the operator to hoist and lower the bucket. Because the arm of the boom is jointed, it can also move from side to side. The boom lift resembles a tail of a metal scorpion. Traditionally, it is used in construction applications outdoors. The boom lift is considered to be more risky to run than scissor lifts, therefore, operators should be licensed individually for these types of lifts.
