There are safety and healthy guidelines governing the use of forklift trucks. Any large machinery, like a lift truck, is potentially dangerous and must be used safely. The regulations and rules state that the driver must perform daily inspections on the forklift and more thorough inspections on a weekly basis and each and every month. The following inspections should be done on the lift truck:
Forklift Brakes - the brakes are a really important part of the forklift machines and hence they must be double and tripled checked. A brake check is done with different pedal heights and pressures to determine the sensitivity of the brakes. The brake lights should be inspected at the same time.
The Tires - forklift tires are also important for the safe performance of the forklift truck and to the braking system. All the tires should be checked properly to make certain they are inflated to the right pressure and that there are no punctures in the tires.
Controller - To know whether the system is in good working condition, the forklift controller system has to be checked by operating the forks and the release mechanism. Any sign of issues should immediately reported and tended to. The forklift must not be utilized until the controller system has been repaired.
Steering Wheel - In order to make certain that the turning of the wheel is correct, the driver must inspect the forklift steering wheel. Lift truck safety depends upon the steering wheel responding well and working accurately. There are different types of checks which can be performed to determine steering wheel performance.
Engine Oil - the Removing the oil dip stick from the engine with help determine if the engine requires oil. The dipstick would show the colour of the oil and the level of the oil. The oil should be refilled if the level is too low. If the colour is off, there could be contamination occurring.
Fire Extinguisher - forklifts are required by law to carry a fire extinguisher. This fire extinguisher would have to be checked to ensure it will work correctly in case of a fire. Different types of fire extinguisher must be inspected in specific ways. Like for example, a dry chemical extinguisher needs to be shaken.
