The Liebherr family business was created during the year 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The company initially gained fame from its mobile tower crane which was noted for its ease of assembly and affordability. It was upon this invention that the foundation of the company flourished under. Now, Liebherr has grown to become among the top manufacturers within the field of construction machines. The company has also earned the reputation of being the accredited supplier of user-oriented technically innovative services and products in different fields. The business has currently become a "Group" working in every continent with over 130 companies and over 35,000 workers across the globe.



The Liebherr Group has been divided into various company units so as to guarantee a manageable operating size. These individual units operate independently. This set up allows the business the ability to be flexible to market signals and stay in tune with worldwide competition. Liebherr has instituted the divisional control companies to deal with the management operations of sales and production for the individual product segments. The Liebherr Group now encompasses 10 different product divisions.



Liebherr-International AG is the Liebherr Group's holding company. They are situated within Bulle, Switzerland and are totally owned by members of the Liebherr family. Currently, the family business is being managed by Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr and his sister Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr in the 2nd generation. Since 2012, several of the active individual divisions have been represented by family members in the 3rd generation including: Patricia Ruf, Stefanie Wohlfarth, Sophie Albrecht and Jan Liebherr. These members of the family have been working together to help set up the course of the family business in the future. They are staying on top of residential buildings and large-scale industrial projects all over the world.



Hans Liebherr started this quest during 1949, with his first company within the tiny South-German town of Kirchdorf/Iller. Today, Kirchdorf is amongst over 20 key manufacturing sites of the Liebherr Group. They are able to average an annual output of roughly 2800 wheeled excavators and employ more than 1400 people in that particular workforce. The company has enjoyed immense growth and diversity ever since it first started. The Liebherr Group continues to remain devoted to implementing and making innovative designs.
