Forklift trucks are essential pieces of machinery used widely in business, specially in warehouses, distribution centers, storage handling and industrial plants. A lift truck is made of hundreds of components, such as the carriage, the cab, the power source, the engine and the wheels. Lift trucks usually have various kinds of attachments also. The following are a few of the most important forklift components.
Engine of the Lift Truck - At the rear of the machine, the lift truck has its power source. The various kinds of engine on the forklift would need varying power sources. For instance, a forklift with an internal combustion engine can have any of the following as its power source: diesel, gasoline, LP gas or CNG gas. Electric motor forklifts receive their power from a battery or fuel cells.
Truck Frame - The frame of the truck is the base of the lift truck and the most essential of all the lift truck components. This forms the machine's core. All other parts of a forklift are connected to the base, including the mast, wheels, axles counterweight and overhead guard. Hydraulic fluid and fuel tanks can be part of the frame assembly as well.
Counterweight Lift Truck Parts - While carrying heavy loads, the counterweight allows the equipment to be balanced. This specific part is cast iron and comes connected to the back of the forklift. The counterbalance balances the truck frame so as to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being lifted or carried on the front. The heavy lead-acid battery in an electric lift truck provides balance and may work as part of the counterweight.
The Cab Area - The cab is also known as the operator compartment. Forklifts would sometimes have closed cabs while others will be open to the air. There are a lot of components located within the cab for operating the forks. The cab contains such essential parts as the steering wheel, operator controls, pedals, seats, levers and switches. The dashboard contains operator readouts.
